Palermo

Palermo is the trendiest and most internationally famous district in Buenos Aires, really a collection of micro-neighbourhoods. Palermo Soho (around Plaza Serrano) is the walkable, bohemian core of corner cafés, boutiques and street art; Palermo Hollywood is the nightlife and restaurant strip; Palermo Chico (Barrio Parque) is the exclusive enclave of mansions, embassies and MALBA; Las Cañitas is a compact upscale dining pocket. Tying it together are green space and gastronomy: the ~370-hectare Bosques de Palermo with lakes and the Rosedal, and the adjacent Jardín Botánico Carlos Thays. The dining scene, Don Julio, La Cabrera, El Preferido, Floería Atlántico, ranks among Latin America’s best. It is the default base for expats, digital nomads and affluent young professionals, served by Subte Line D, dense bus routes and an extensive bike-lane and EcoBici grid, though the Soho/Hollywood short-let core is among South America’s most saturated.
